Pokémon GO – List of fifth generation Pokémon, date and everything you must know

The fifth generation of Pokémon GO will add a total of 156 new Pokémon to capture.

Gen 5 is the third major addition to the game since its launch in 2016, offering about 40 more Pokémon than Gen 4 and a few more than 130 of Gen 3.

The fifth generation of the Pokémon franchise games includes the Pokémon Black, White, Black 2 and White 2 titles. Unlike previous generations, in Gen 5 there are only completely original Pokémon. It is the first generation since Gen 2 that does not introduce new Pokémon pups or evolutions of previous generations.

What you should know about Gen 5 Pokémon

Belonging to the Unova region, Gen 5 continues the tradition established by previous generations. There are three initial Pokémon (Plant, Fire and Water type) with two evolutions each, a good handful of Legendary and new Pokémon birds of normal type.

Here are some of the characteristics of Gen 5 that separate it from the other generations:

  • Gen 5 is completely composed of original Pokémon. There are no Pokémon pups or evolutions of previous generations.
  • Many of the Pokémon have special conditions linked to their evolutions. That includes reaching high levels of friendship, exchanging, exchanging specific Pokémo and different evolutionary stones.
  • There are nine Legendary and four Mythical Pokémon of Gen 5, so it is the first generation that does not introduce more Legendary than the previous one.
  • Victini, the Legendary Pokémon of victory, is the only Pokémon that appears before the initials of the region in the Pokédex. In the Unova Pokédex, Victini is number 000, and is also the only Pokémon with this number. The reason is that Victini is said to grant victory to the coach who becomes his friend.
  • The mystic Swordsmen – Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion and Keldeo – are based on ‘The Three Musketeers’ by Alejandro Dumas.
  • Gen 5 adds the most new Pokémon compared to all other current generations, 156.
  • Trubbish is from Gen 5.

List of the Pokémon of Gen 5

As with the previous four generations, Candies are necessary for most evolutions. However, as with the Sinnoh Stone of Gen 4, this time there will be a special object for the evolutions: the Sinova Stone.
